"Voci, Orlando's senior contemporary dance company, always has been ready to step out on a limb. Whether leaping off mini trampolines in mid-dance, working with puppets or moving to spoken word, Voci's dancers have given audiences reason to stretch their definition of dance."

A few steps too far toward edgy

Below are excerpts from our Winter Garden review- If you want "Edgy" Voci will deliver! We think the Fringe is the perfect location for "enlightened" audience members!
"I'm a champion of new work and stretched boundaries, but some choreography debuted Friday by guest artists Tara Lee Burns (no relation to the reviewer) and Cheryl Mann, as well as a solo for Mann by Lucas Crandall, give too few clues to their intentions. If Voci hopes to win west Orange County converts to modern dance, it may need to lighten up and enlighten us."
"Location, location is not just a mantra for real-estate: Artists need to consider their audience. I am reminded of a 2000 Melbourne performance by Mikhail Baryshnikov's White Oak Dance Project that featured choreography alternately minimalist and edgy. Fine for New York City fans who have watched the evolution of a former ballet star into an avid advocate of experimental movement."

"When was the last time you saw a world-premiere dance with a commissioned score and artist-created set in Central Florida? Right — me neither. Yet the spunky Orlando modern dance troupe Voci has pulled off this little 3D miracle in, of all places, Osceola County. What’s more, it’s a seamless, hour-long work notable for its liberated yet disciplined exploration of movement and the quality of its performances, both visual and aural."
